The Kite Runner

The Story jumps in time to modern day.  Amir and his dad moved to the United States because the situation in Pakistan was getting out of control.  They bought a new house in Fremont California but his dad had a hard time adjusting to American life style.  As Amir finishes high school, he enrolls in college.  Amir wants to major in Writing because he hopes to be a great writer.  His dad disapproves his decision because he thinks that writing will take him no where.  Finally his dad approves and Amir goes on to achieve his dream.  In the summer Amir and his dad had a booth where they sold stuff they had previously bought at garage sales.  They hope to make profit out of it.  In the flea market, Amir gets lucky and meets a beautiful woman.  Her name is Soroya.  They make eye contact and the story gives a turn.
I like these chapters because after all the things Amir has gone through, it’s nice that he meets a special person.  I also think that Amir is trying to overcome all the obstacles and become someone in life.  He is putting a lot of effort into school which I think is great because he gets to have a bright future.  I don’t understand why he didn’t bring Hassan and his dad to the U.S.  They have been together for a long time; it just doesn’t seem nice to leave them in Pakistan where things are getting ugly.

The Kite Runner

Amir and his dad take a trip to Pakistan.  On their way there, Amir gets sick.  He worries that he might be embarrassing Baba.  They continue on the road trip as they arrive at a checkpoint.  The Russian Guard agrees to let them pass only if they let him have sex with a beautiful woman on the car with Baba and Amir.  Baba is a gentleman so he refuses to have this woman get rapped.  The guard gets so mad that he wants to shoot Baba but another guard intervenes.
As they get to their destination, they spend several weeks in a baseman with other refugees.  Amir recognizes a familiar face.  It was Kamal, the boy that had rapped Hassan.  Kamal looked weak and did not speak.  Kamal’s father told Baba that he was caught by some guards and had gotten rapped.  It is so ironic that he gets rapped after he had rapped Amir’s servant.

The Kite Runner

The Kite competition wasn't a happy time for Hassan.  He got raped by some older kids.  He didn't know what to say or do. After his rape, he spend less time with Amir and his dad.  Hassan felt embarrast and dirty.  The boys didn't speak for a while.  Amir was embarrest to talk to Hassan becuase of what had happen.  Amir is about to turn 13 and his father plans a party for him. When Amir is opening his gifts, he sees the biography of Adolf Hitler that Assef has given him.  He throws it in the garbage and starts crying.  Ironically Hassan has to serve drinks to the two guys that had raped him.

The Kite Runner

In Afghanistan, they have a big kite competition.  It is the time where everyone comes together and flights the kites they have been working on for the whole year.   Amir and Hassan are always a team.  Early in the year they buy the supplies needed to make the kite using their yearly savings.  As always Amir is the kite flyer and Hassan the Kite Runner.
“But Hassan was by far the greatest kite runner I’d ever seen” Hosseini52
Hassan had a special talent for kite runner.  He knew in advance where the kite would land.  He always followed his gut.

The Kite Runner

The Kite Runner takes place in Afghanistan.  It is the story of two kids who neither have a mother.  Amir is the son of a well known and respected gentleman.  Hassan is Amir’s servant but the family treats him and his father as part of the family.  The two kids always played together but Amir never had called Hassan his friend.
“But he is not my friend! I almost blurted.  He’s my servant!” Hosseini41.
To me this quote really says a lot about Amir.  He only plays with Hassan when he has no one to play with.  He is a spoil kid who just thinks about himself.

The lightning Theif

The kids manage to get away from the dogs and make it to Hades palace.  They reach Hades.  He didn’t have the master bold.  Aside from that his master weapon was missing.  The person who took the master bold also had to take his weapon.  Percy was confused but he had an idea of who might have it.  They looked for a way to escape underworld but only three people could get out.  It was four of them, Annabeth, Grover, his mom and him.  Who would stay?  That was a question that had to be solved fast.  His mom decided to stay and Percy promise to come back for her.  Percy and his friends left and on their way to earth they found the missing master bolt.  They return it to Mt. Olympus.  Zeus was happy Poseidon was very proud of what his son had done.

I like the ending because it has some mystery.  Also the ending doesn’t completely solve so you can make up your own ending.  I like the part where Poseidon and Percy meet for the first time and Poseidon tells him how proud he is.

The Lightning Thief

These sculptures had something so realistic about them.  This was because they were actual humans.  Medusa could turn people into statues with only a look at her eyes.  Percy and his friends enter this store.  This lady offers the kids a meal and they were happy.  Annabeth found something suspicious about the lady.  She immediately told Percy and Grover to run from her.  They fought with her and Percy using his sword chopped her head off.  Percy decided to send Medusa’s head to his father in Olympus.  Finally they reach the Golden Coast.  They meet Ares the god of war who gives them pointers on where the entrance to the underworld was.  The three friends enter the dark world.  Hades dogs were wondering around the palace.  They could smell humans.  This wasn’t good for the kids.

This remains me of church.  When the priest talks about bad people going to hell.  Usually no one wants to go to hell and in their case they want to go to hell.  I really like this part because it gives me an idea of what hell is like and what goes on there.
